Manufacturing Skills Training
Manufacturing Skills Training
At a time when manufacturing has been experiencing a national decline, the precision metal manufacturing sector has been adding jobs in the Naugatuck Valley region, attesting to its continuing strength and importance.

The slow disappearance of skilled workers and the need for businesses to effectively compete in a global economy, have made it necessary to create alternative measures to sustain productivity.

Our facility is a mirror image of the average manufacturing floor. Through the cooperation of the private sector and the Department of Labor, we teach on Haas CNC, Brown & Sharpe, Davenport, Swiss, Header, Eyelet and tool room equipment.

Over 80 area companies have donated to us and/or hired our trainees. Thank you!

Training Opportunities

Proposed Educational Calendar 2007 [PDF]

Manufacturing and methods change every year. There are new certifications to learn-codes, documentation and machinery. To stay competitive and continue to grow with companies, employees need to consistently develop their skills and their knowledge.

Each course is an integral part of manufacturing businesses. We make no assumptions as to the abilities of our students and make sure that each student starts at the beginning and receives the same comprehensive training to ensure consistency in skills for all of our graduates. We also offer remedial work and brush up courses in reading and mathematics. The result is good, entry level machine operators available for companies.

Whether you're new to the industry or someone in the field for 10 or 20 years ready for retraining, we help you get ready. We're patient and work one-on-one to help our students feel comfortable and confident to take the next step.
CNC Entry Level

The CNC Lathe and Miller courses will cover the operation, maintenance and feeding of the machine. An explanation of basic codes will be delivered. Simulators and live machines will be used.

Advanced Courses
All advanced courses will be offered based on competency related to the entry level courses.
Machine Courses

At least 63 hours of hands-on training applying classroom knowledge to feeding, operating, and maintaining machines.

NIMS
In 1999, the Technical Training Center was the first school in the United States to be accredited by the National Institute of Metalworking Skills, an organization that has developed the national standard for the metalworking industry. Working in conjunction with the State Department of Labor (apprenticeship division) we will parallel NIMS credentials with state apprenticeship.

Apprenticeship Training
We've been approved by the State of CT Department of Education to offer all related instruction for the Metal Trades. There are 17 courses offered, each course has at least 36 hours of hands-on training. We work with individual companies and groups of companies to offer a comprehensive scheduling of courses to meet their employee's needs. Just click here to see what you and your employer are offered.
Blueprints
